The Group of Reversible Turing Machines

چکیده
We consider Turing machines as actions over configurations in ΣZ d which only change them locally around a marked position that can move and carry a particular state. In this setting we study the monoid of Turing machines and the group of reversible Turing machines. We also study two natural subgroups, namely the group of finite-state automata, which generalizes the topological full groups studied in the theory of orbitequivalence, and the group of oblivious Turing machines whose movement is independent of tape contents, which generalizes lamplighter groups and has connections to the study of universal reversible logical gates. Our main results are that the group of Turing machines in one dimension is neither amenable nor residually finite, but is locally embeddable in finite groups, and that the torsion problem is decidable for finite-state automata in dimension one, but not in dimension two.

Some improvements in fuzzy turing machines
In this paper, we improve some previous definitions of fuzzy-type Turing machines to obtain degrees of accepting and rejecting in a computational manner. We apply a BFS-based search method and some level’s upper bounds to propose a computational process in calculating degrees of accepting and rejecting. Next, we introduce the class of Extended Fuzzy Turing Machines equipped with indeterminacy s...
متن کاملTime/Space Trade-Offs for Reversible Computation
A reversible Turing machine is one whose transition function is 1, so that no instantaneous description (ID) has more than one predecessor. Using a pebbling argument, this paper shows that, for any e > 0, ordinary multitape Turing machines using time T and space S can be simulated by reversible ones using time O(T +) and space O(S log T) or in linear time and space O(ST). The former result impl...
متن کاملTuring Automata and Graph Machines
Indexed monoidal algebras are introduced as an equivalent structure for self-dual compact closed categories, and a coherence theorem is proved for the category of such algebras. Turing automata and Turing graph machines are defined by generalizing the classical Turing machine concept, so that the collection of such machines becomes an indexed monoidal algebra. On the analogy of the von Neumann ...
متن کاملPeriodicity and Immortality in Reversible Computing
We investigate the decidability of the periodicity and the immortality problems in three models of reversible computation: reversible counter machines, reversible Turing machines and reversible onedimensional cellular automata. Immortality and periodicity are properties that describe the behavior of the model starting from arbitrary initial configurations: immortality is the property of having ...
